SpaceNet was an obstetrician at EMC HostCo in 2007 and has been a partner and customer since.
SpaceNet operates today's highly available IT systems for its business customers on several hundred square meters of data center space.
As part of an expansion project for a colocation surface, our CTO Gunter Hahn developed an innovative rack cooling system with our customer, the so-called direct rack cooling.
The peculiarity of this system is based on the strict separation of cold and warm air, without having to build an expensive and light-absorbing enclosure.
The innovation was to put the servers back in the rack to allow cold air to flow directly into the closed-pane front of the rack through specially crafted bottom plates.
Thus, one achieves the efficiency of important separation of air flows, comparable to a conventional housing.
Today, direct rack cooling is used in many data centers and is particularly successful on colocation areas where different customers operate their equipment in the immediate vicinity as well as in small cloud cages.
